£80.00

Trefid Spoon.

This style of spoon originated in the post-Commonwealth period, circa 1660. The spoon has a characteristic shape of a flat stem leading to the trefid or trifid (trefoil) shaped termination at the top of the handle.  The reverse of the bowl of the spoon often has the ‘rat-tail’ design.

This particular example bears the maker’s mark FH – Francis Howard and the Sterling silver hallmark for the Sheffield Assay Office Bi-centenary year 1973.
