The largest manufacturing silversmiths in England outside of London, Sheffield and Birmingham.
The company was started in Bristol in the early 19th century by William Woodman.
Many pieces were hallmarked at Exeter Assay Office until its closure in 1882 when the hallmarking was transferred to the London Assay Office.
The company continued to trade until around 1940.
