Wedding Rings

For many people, an engagement ring is often the first item of quality jewellery that they own. Once your engagement ring has been purchased, worn and enjoyed, thoughts start to turn to the next step of getting married. Now the time has come to choose a suitable wedding ring to go with your gorgeous engagement ring.
Many things need to be taken into consideration when choosing a wedding ring.
- It is usually preferable to keep to the same precious metal as the engagement ring.
- Is it to be worn alongside the engagement ring or on its own most of the time?
- Do you want or need a plain, straight edged ring, or one made to fit around your engagement ring?
- How narrow or wide do you want the ring to be?
- Do you want it plain gold/platinum or do you want an engraved pattern or diamond set?
- Do you want a standard weight ring or heavy/extra heavy ring?
If the wedding ring will mainly be worn without the engagement ring then you are unlikely to want or need one that has been made to fit like a jigsaw to the engagement ring. However, you may like one with a smooth shape to fit around the engagement ring for when they are worn together.
Some people like to keep the wedding ring to the same width as the shank on the engagement ring, whereas other people like a wider or narrower band. It is all down to personal preference. We find that coming in to the shop and trying on various styles and widths of rings to be extremely useful when making your choice.
Any of the standard rings that we have in stock can be produced in 9 carat or 18 carat yellow or white gold or platinum.
The majority of white gold has a rhodium plating to give it a bright white finish, but, this does mean that you will need to have it repolished and re-rhodium plated from time to time to retain this look. It is possible to have the rings without a rhodium finish so the metal will look a little darker but the colour you see will remain the same over time.
Jigsaw and Smooth Fit Wedding Rings
We offer the service of bespoke wedding rings.
We send your engagement ring to the manufacturer along with details of the metal and width of the wedding ring you are thinking of and they will either post or email us with sketches of the designs they can produce.
Jigsaw fit rings are designed to fit exactly into the edge of the wedding ring, whereas the smooth fit will “skim” around the edge of the shape.
Invariably there is the option of plain or diamond set. It can also be possible to have the diamonds added at a later date to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries or the birth of a child.
Sometimes it can be necessary to produce a CAD image if there have been queries regarding the design. If a CAD image is produced then there is a charge for this but the cost is deducted if the ring is subsequently manufactured. There is currently no charge to produce the initial sketches.
The whole process usually takes a couple of weeks to get the sketches and then a further 4 – 5 weeks to manufacture the ring and to get it hallmarked.
